What shoes are you wearing?
In many cases, the apparel may have a positive or negative effect on a person. It has a subtle effect on the manner in which he/she perceives or behaves daily, even this could dictate the confidence with someone handles in any environment.
But clothing is not just the fact of being or feeling good, it has a deeper connotation that could be interesting to analyze For women, fashion has gone hand in hand with its development, not only in the trends but also how their perception in the society has been transformed over the decades.
One of the periods that marked the course in how women dress was definitely the Belle Epoque. Years during which women were oppressed and the corset was the best representation of this oppression.
By the 1930s, women started to break free gradually; not only in their dress – now the important thing is feeling comfortable – but also how they behave socially, activities like drinking and smoking in public were accepted.
Since World War II, during the 1940s, women held jobs that were performed by men formerly. It brought a more austere and masculine fashion. Women feel stronger and this is reflected in their dress and, above all, in the way they behave: independent to perform toughest jobs and being householder.

In the 1960s, fashion is transformed dramatically with the beginning of the Feminist Movement. Although some stereotypes still remain, new modern women’s clothing becomes more sensual and reflects the detachment from the tradition. This modernization, in both fashion and social ideas, resulted in the fight for their rights, gender equality and sexual freedom, among other issues.

For the 1970s, women feel totally free to choose how they dress and they want to project: miniskirts, necklines, transparencies are part of the great diversity of looks that women can afford.
In the 1980s, women chose to wear revealing clothing, big shoulders pads and flashy hairstyles that reflect fun specially.
In the 1990s and beginning of the new millennium, although the looks are very different, the woman decides how she wants to be seen. Feminism is largely positioned and this is manifested in all activities that women play. It is a versatile and multitask woman who begins to progress up (or move up) positions which were previously reserved for men only.
At the present, there are many kinds (or types) of women, their roles and social vision is much wider than before. She is not only versatile and multitasks but she is interested in the environment social causes. It is a woman who takes care of herself, who demands to be considered for positions that previously only belonged to men, so their clothing can range from casual, formal, sporty and eclectic, among others.
With all of this, it is clear that fashion is a reflection of the society and it can make feel a woman as a confident person or undermine the confidence in her; in any case, it is necessary to raise awareness and strengthen her self-esteem issues that allow her to feel good in their own skin, because, now is her who decides the shoes she wears.
